In one word or phrase, what does “inheritance” mean to you?

Inheritances are reminders that we are part of a long thread of humanity that came before and will continue after us. We are both inheritors and ancestors simultaneously, and we have limited control of either.

What is something you have inherited?

I have inherited hope, faith, and a commitment to expand our capacity for compassion to change the complicated and multifaceted systems, structures and societal beliefs, theories, biases, and learnings that I also inherited.

In one word or phrase, what does “inheritance” mean to you?

Baggage

What is something you have inherited?

A ripped, smudged and outdated map of life. Being a first generation American and a millennial is a mixed bag. No familial wealth to inherit, but still the same expectations to succeed beyond my parents without the head start… and in a COMPLETELY different world.

Nolan Roy is a filmmaker from Brooklyn with degrees from Andrews University and Full Sail University. He has been captured by storytelling his entire life, beginning his career on the stage at the age of 5. From there his interest for visual storytelling began. He found his way from acting to behind the camera where he found his true love for filmmaking, for the art of taking a story from the page to screen by weaving together sound, light and performance to convey emotion. As a Director of Photography he enjoys designing the look of films from the page to the screen. Although he considers cinematography his calling, he frequently switches hats and enjoy writing, directing and shooting several of his own projects, including documentaries, short films, sketches, promotional content and music videos.

In one word or phrase, what does “inheritance” mean to you?

Life. The gift of life.

This may seem simple and general, but I truly thank god, my parents, grandparents, and so forth for the gift of life every day. They have done so much to give me the best, and make sure I love and cherish my life.

What is something you have inherited?

My parent’s passion and optimistic outlook, and their ability to overcome anything thrown their way with love.
